Portrait of Johan de Mepsche. At the upper left is a family crest. At the upper left is a text which reads: "Heer Johan D. Mepsche, Ridder Konincklike Majesteit TZV Hispanien Raedt ende Lieutenant over Stadt Groningen ende Ommelanden." (Lord Johan D. Mepsche, Knight Royal Majesty TZV Spanish Council and Lieutenant over City of Groningen and Ommelanden.) In the center, against a black background, is Johan de Mepsche, who is wearing a dark luxurious top with white accents at the collar and sleeve edges. A double necklace hangs around their neck. Johan has dark hair , slickly combed back, a full beard, and an open and curious gaze looking at the viewer. In their hands are two unidentified objects.
