Courtesy of Groninger Museum: "Oval pouch, two hinged halves with a miniature portrait of Maurits Clant, an occupant of the Hanckemaborg in Zuidhorn, placed in the left part. Maurits Clant (Groningen 1667 - 1734 Zuidhorn) was one of the most famous borg lords of Hanckema in Zuidhorn. He was a member of the States General and curator of the Groningen Hogeschool but is mainly known as an enemy of Rudolf de Mepsche. He opposed the notorious Rudolf de Mepsche, who wanted to take power away from the Clant family. De Mepsche wanted to arrest Maurice Clant but Clant managed to escape by fleeing to Groningen." 11*9 cm. Photo: Heinz Aebi.
